If you're looking for a quick getaway from Denver Mt Galbraith is a great option. Just outside of Golden, this fairly easy trail climbs to some awesome views right in the foothills of the Front Range.
You'll start on the Cedar Gulch Trail, crossing a stream then climbing about 1.3 miles up Galbraith until you come to Galbraith Loop. You can go clockwise or counter clockwise here, as it is a loop. Going clockwise will give you great views of Golden and Denver off the bat and be a nice downhill/semi shaded hike on the way back.
You'll be treated to some fantastic views of Lookout Mountain and Clear Creek Canyon at the top of Galbraith. Continue the loop (assuming you went clockwise) and you'll be treated to some shade from the ponderosa pines, and a bit of a decline as you make your way down the mountain. Finish the loop and take the Cedar Gulch Trail back to the parking lot.
In the late Spring and summer you will see a lot of wildflowers dotting the sides of this trail! This is also a great hike to bring the dog! There are known to be a lot of rattlesnakes in the area, so be sure to watch out for those and do not let your dog wander off trail. There are restrooms at the trailhead. If you don't have a car and are looking for a quick getaway near Denver, take the lightrail out to the Golden station the get a super quick Lyft/Uber to the Galbraith Trailhead!
Overall this is a fantastic place for a quick escape from the city and to catch some fresh mountain air. Bring lots of water, this one can get hot!
With a wide trail and its proximity to Denver, this is a fantastic nature hike for you and the puppers!
There are some nice flat areas near the top of Galbraith to lay down a yoga mat or just relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city below!
This trail is super close to Golden. You can see the giant Coors factory from the top of Galbriath. Explore Golden before or after your hike!
Galbraith is just off 93 in Golden on Golden Gate Canyon Road. The parking lot isn't huge, so you know the drill! If it is full, you can also access the loop via the Nightbird Gulch trail which starts in a neighborhood nearby! Below is a pic of the main parking lot from above on the trail.
